Logo Design: “I asked him if he would come up with a few options, and he said, ‘No, I will solve your problem for you and you will pay me. You don’t have to use the solution. If you want options go talk to other people.—- Steve Jobs & Paul Rand [ http://www.logodesignlove.com/next-logo ]
So, woke up this morning, and an epiphany hit me…
`
I love #design so much, and nothing makes me happier than helping out someone else. I’m combining those two loves starting today. There are many people starting up their own #businesses after being laid off… Unable to find work… Just trying to make a dollar… Not much money in their pocket… Just trying to make it… I’ve been there, done that. $20 dollars to my name, no job, and a dream.
`
Starting right now every two weeks I will select one person to design either one of the following for:

When designing #logos on the fly, just on my own time for no reason…I like to find actual #companies that exist and #design a logo for it. I feel I get more of a challenge tht way, rather than creating a logo for a name I make up. Because at that point I just “choose” a name to fit whatever #logo I create, and in the real world I don’t get to choose the company’s name. The company chooses me and they already have a name and a #theme in mind. That’s where the real challenge comes in. Designing something for someone else who has their on vision, but just needs help carrying it out. So I think of it as training for the real world.—
A good example of #branding is #Kleenex. People call any type of tissue Kleenex even though it could be a different brand of tissue. #YellowPages is another good one. Many people pick up a yellow phonebook and think automatically it’s the yellow pages. Many people ask for a #Coke meaning just get them any dark soda whether it’s #Pepsi or #BK cola. When a brand becomes the #label for a category, say like Kleenex for tissues, that’s a good #brand at work.

I like the Chase bank logo becase it stands out from all the other banks. Plus it forms a circle, which matches the name- - “Chase”. Going in circles is a chase. Also, the circle can symbolize continuing improvement as well. It also forms a square within the circle, which is a symbol of stability. Any logo that I can form 3+ sentences about, is a logo at work. Rather it’s a good or bad logo.

You know I like Sea World’s logo. I saw their commercial today and said to myself that’s a nice logo. Of course Sea World is known for Shamu, so the graphic in the logo resemples a sort of fin treading through water in my eyes. But it’s a abstract logo in the sense of it’s shape and that’s what I like most about. It’s simple in color in details, that you can put on letterheads, business cards, pens, easily since they’re are not alot of details. Also as the logo shrinks down, you can still see it and recognize at different distances…
When creating a logo one important thing to consider is color. Why? The more colors involved with your logo, the higher the cost. You have to consider this when designing your logo. You could end up paying as much as $25 a shirt to get your logo printed on it because you need 5 or 6 color printing. Shoot for 3 colors in your logo design…tops. It’ll pay off in the long run, trust me. Also, there’s letter heads, business cards, hats pens….less color used correctly is better.—Shala
