Selling Shirts at Retail Chains

You may think getting your brand in a retail store equals instant success, and money in the bank. Actually, it may be more of a hassle (http://www.t-shirtforums.com/offline-retail-tradeshows/t128527.html). 

At times it seems like it would take away from the joy of printing or creating shirt designs in the first place. The joy of sharing your designs, meeting people happy to wear your designs, and fraternizing with fellow shirt designers. Going to shows/summits is a lot of fun, and you get to be in touch with the people who support you, meet them face-to-face. Moving into stores I think takes the love out of it versus the face-to-face interaction you get attending shows, or running your own shop.

Okay, so I have been testing out Ustream and it definitely has some great qualities. However, with the style of videos I will be posting, I need to be able to display my full screen, in full screen mode. I’ve tried doing this with Ustream in different ways, and my screen just does not come out clear in the videos. So I am just going to use a good ole screen-caster recording program, and post the vids directly on my site (itsshala.com). What I do think I’m going to do, because Ustream is so fun, is broadcast myself live as I record diff vids. So everyone will get to see all the bloopers and screen takes live as the happen, LOL. It’ll be an awesome “behind the scenes” look. I hope to get the first vid posted this week….So be on the look out. I’ll annouce it when the first vid gets posted. Either over PowerPoint or Web Design. Maybe I’ll get two vids posted this week…

These two are from an assignment I had to turn in dealing with typography. I had to pick a font that represented the word it spelled. I did one in color and one in black and white.

When it comes to typography there are a lot of elements at play that I did not even give to much thought to. Like a feminine font is curvy, and a masculine font is blocky or boxy. A modern font that represents femininity is curvy with skinny strokes. I’ll prolly write a piece on this subject later. It’s pretty cool…the amount of thought that goes into selecting the right front to deliver a particular message.

This is a project I had to do for one of my graphic design courses. We could only use circles, triangles, and squares. I was only allowed to use the color white, gray, and black. ` We needed to show something dynamic (movement). I illustrated the sun setting or rising (depending on how you view it). Creating the different sized circles and using different shades of gray helps paint the picture of the sun rising or setting. ` I created the house to represent stationary. Something that does not move. In theory, squares are used to symbolize something heavy and fixed. ` Having to use only circles and triangles really challenged me to use my imagination. So what is a SUPER Senior - -

When you have been classified as senior for more than a year.

`

So I signed up for my degree plan back in 2004.

`

In 2005 the university decided to “re-design” the degree plan. This resulted in the classes on the 2004 plan I signed off on, being canceled. As in, they were no longer offered. There was no way for me to take them. I could only take the new classes being offered as of 2005.

`

So with the new classes were new prereqs (prerequisites), I had not taken of course since they were not on my 2004 plan. That means I had to basically end up taking the new classes on the new 2005 plan. So the 6 plus major classes I took previous to 2005 were NULL & VOID. They didn’t count.

`

So anyway, that set me back a year to graduate. Instead of graduating in 2009, I will not graduate until Fall 2010.

`

So yes I am a SUPER senior, because I have been classified as a senior since Fall 2009. I have been a senior for what - - a year and half…

`

Comcast Cable Internet

Okay so the other day some guy calls from Comcast—

“Hello, Mrs. ___. I am calling you today to inform you that you can lower your internet bill by bundling it with a basic cable package…”

“I have satellite, and I’m not changing.” Shala replies sharply and thinks, “So not interested in your sale pitch mr.”

“Well you don’t have to use it if you don’t want. It’ll just be the basic 22 channels. You can use a simple cable cord to tap into it if your satellite goes out. Plus you can increase the internet speed with this bundle.”

“Oh really? How much? Will it remain the same price?”

So anyways I was able to increase the speed of my internet service and it has been 2 days. I uploaded a video to Vimeo in under 4 minutes. I open web pages quicker than I can snap my fingers. I can log-in to Tumblr blazingly fast. SO the speed has definitely increased and I’m loving it. I’m able to watch videos with a shorter buffer time, it’s great. Lastly it only raised my bill by 2 dollars, and I will gladly pay those 2 dollars, and continue not using the cable…it’s so much faster. AWESOME! Oh and the fee is basically like 65 dollars a month as long as you have the internet service and cable bundle, so the rate isn’t suppose to change after so many months…

If you pay for Comcast internet, it’s definitely something worth looking into…
