That’s Just My Flaw-

Over the last few days I have been reminded of a flaw I have. This flaw was first brought to my attention during my Junior year of college. An advisor of mine smacked me in the face with it.

My flaw-

I just flat out fail to ever really talk about what I do. So many times I gaze upon surprised faces followed by, “You do that?”, their head cocked to the side in disbelief that I never bothered to tell them.

Each time I respond, “Yep, been doing this for a few years.” I either take out my phone, laptop, or sketchbook (because I always have 1 of them on hand at all times). And start showing them some of my work.

I get the general response from them, “Why aren’t you doing this professionally, profiting from it?”

Good Question- why aren’t I?

Biggest reason why is I did not find or understand what having a passion for something was until now. How to let it drive you.

As I mentioned earlier, this flaw was brought to my attention when I had to create a resume for a Technical Writing course. It was pretty blank, so the advisor started asking some probing questions, and the flood gates to my abilities flung open.

She told me, “You need to put all of that on here. How else would anyone know unless you tell them.”

I’ve become better at it somewhat, but I still tend not to speak on what all I do. I tend to just mention things in passing during general conversations. During these conversations (especially among friends) I sit back and pause for a moment and think, “I kick ass at creativity - period.”

Dare I list out all of what I can do here?

Nope. Just not my nature to stand on a platform yelling out, “Look at what all I can do!”

That’s just my flaw-

My Little (Non)Vacation

Took a vacation from work last week- I did absolutely NONE of the things I planned to do. I did manage to party like a rockstar Halloween weekend. Last time I just hung out all night was before graduating. Life after college has been - not as chaotic, way less parties.

I literally ended up taking a vacation (ate, slept, chilled). I didn’t even turn my desktop on once. Checked emails through my phone here and there. Oh and played some mean Scrabble ( I seriously kick ass at that game - find me on Words With Friends @ itsShala)

I planned on redesigning a site, starting on a new shirt design, designing my new business cards, and narrowing down which company to print my custom shopping bags. Yea, none of that happened.

Now I actually feel refreshed though, and hungry to get back working on my new business venture this week. I plan to launch the name and the first sector of the new company this January.

As of last week, the old company has been put to bed. SX Innovations is no more. It was a great run. But on to bigger and better things. Complete new business model. Getting custom designed silk screen shirts from me will be near impossible going forward. It’s no longer in scope- finally taking that leap to produce for the masses. Long time coming-

Don’t worry, I’m still staying true to my passion. I’m not designing based on trends, or what’s hot. I’m setting out to create a Creative Movement.

Anecdotes

Alright, so I am starting this new thing I am calling Anecdotes. I will start back posting articles to my site again, just in shorter form.

With this launch happening in January, my time is severely limited. Not able to make weekly videos, not able to post lengthy articles… Besides, I prefer reading shorter, quick reads personally. I hate having to read something long. Keep on the look out for them, it will help close the gap between me posting new tutorial vids.
